Wire service report—In what is unfolding as the news story of the millennium, it appears three alien life forms have imparted exterritorial knowledge to the inhabitants of planet earth. The event is more like an episode form the “X” files than reality. During rush hour traffic this morning in Washington, DC a flying saucer hovered briefly near the White House then moved quickly to the national mall near the George Washington Monument; this in spite of the ORANGE terrorist alert status in effect with increased vigilance including non-stop fighter jet flyovers and extra police. There was no noise and no apparent warning by our nation’s best radar. Suddenly, the space ship settled gently and remained silent and motionless 4 feet above the grass. In the eerie stillness a stairway appeared at the side of the vessel, a door opened and three alien delegates walked down the stairs and onto the well manicured grass. Bystanders, police and people from the media covering a nearby anti-war demonstration seemed paralyzed, unable to move or speak.

As if sensing the awkwardness of the moment, the tall alien in the center raised both hands and in a gentle, yet firm human voice announced, “We come in peace. I will not answer your questions, but will give you this book. It contains all the knowledge you need to find world peace and to solve your social and environmental problems. It will answer questions about human origin and give you knowledge so each of the inhabitants of the Third Planet can find purpose, achieve immortality and live in paradise forever. It contains an antidote for illness and suffering. It will provide healing for the downcast, the broken hearted.” As he reached forward a small glowing lectern appeared. Placing a book on the stand he said, “ Again, I bid you peace.” The aliens turned, ascended the stairs and disappeared inside the saucer. The stairs and door disappeared without a sound and the spacecraft was gone. Only the book remained resting on the glowing metallic lectern. A bystander snatched the book and another took its place. Others followed. Surprisingly, each book appeared in the native language of the person taking the book and there seemed no end to the supply of alien knowledge for the taking.

Reports are now coming in that a similar event occurred simultaneously in EVERY national capital on the planet. From Washington DC to Moscow, from Bogotá to Tallinn and from Baghdad to Katmandu all over the world earthlings are receiving alien wisdom in their native language. This is indeed the event of the millennium. The extraterrestrial knowledge will soon become the most widely read and studied read in the history of the world. Who could ask for more than shared knowledge from a superior alien life form? What an exciting life-changing event!

Most of us can relate to such a science fiction tale. Every science fiction buff hopes and dreams for communication with an intelligent extraterrestrial life form. The very thought of gaining knowledge from an advanced alien life form is exciting beyond belief. That hope has spawned a multitude of books, movies and endless speculation. The underlying belief is all our technological, behavioral and social ills could be easily solved by a more advanced alien culture. It is believed extraterrestrial knowledge would provide profound answers to the cause and remedy for wars, disease, pollution and social evil. With this in mind, millions of dollars of research money has actually been spent developing an inter-galactic universal language binary code using the periodic chart of the elements as a common point to all alien species. Signals have been beamed into space for decades and listening devices used to detect just such an intelligent reply. Computer programs have been written and home computers recruited in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. According to a recent National Geographic report more than 4 million people in 226 countries have volunteered their computer's free time to the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

Can you imagine the media excitement if an intelligible message was actually received and translated from the advanced mind of an extraterrestrial? It would without a doubt be the event of all time. Well my friend, I have some really GREAT news! We have actually been contacted by a superior extraterrestrial life form. This life form has wisdom without end and has shared that wisdom with all mankind. The alien life form is none other than the Living God and Creator of the universe. The communication containing that otherworldly wisdom is the Bible! Like the story above it is available in virtually every language on earth. All we need to is read and follow the knowledge it contains.

Clearly the entire Bible is divinely inspired and is suitable of instruction, but one book stands out. It is devoted to sharing Godly wisdom with the next generation and is an excellent place to begin. King Solomon of old was inspired by the Most High God and wrote most of the book within the Bible we call Proverbs. He also wrote the next book, the Book of Ecclesiastes. Both are considered "Wisdom Books" in the Bible. King Solomon was the son of King David and Bathsheba. King David is one of the major characters in the Old Testament. It was David as a teenage boy who killed the giant Goliath with a stone and a slingshot. (1 Samuel 17) Before this as a sheepherder he had killed a bear and lion with a slingshot and stone. He was a mighty warrior most of his life and was called, "A man after the heart of God." King David had it all. He killed a Giant, married a princess and became King of all the land, but he also experienced darkness.

King David also teaches us about the love and forgiveness of God. King David wrote most of the Psalms and followed after God as a young man. Then in mid-life he sinned a great sin. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and she became pregnant. He then had her husband murdered. Nathan, the prophet of God rebukes King David for his terrible deed and David falls on his face and asks God for forgiveness. God forgives him and still calls him, "A man after the heart of God." Their first baby dies. Solomon is the second baby (2 Samuel 11-12) and he becomes King after his father David (1 Kings 1:28-33 and beyond).

Upon becoming king, Solomon prays for wisdom and God gives him the greatest wisdom and wealth of any man before or after. God would have also given him long life, but he fell into sin because of his 500 wives and 300 mistresses. See 1 Kings 3-4. An in-depth study of the wisdom of Proverbs can help us make good decisions in life.

In this country many liberal people see a criminal that commits a terrible crime and find out he had a bad childhood and was abused. They then say it was because he was abused as a child that he committed the crimes and many times the jury and judge will let him go without incarceration. This is simply wrong thinking for there are many abused children that grow up and do not go into crime. A criminal commits a crime because of bad decisions. So it is with us. We cannot blame our family or our past or our childhood or even our country or the politics if we fail and get into big trouble. If we fail it is because we make bad decisions. Proverbs can help you make good decisions for the rest of your life.

Can we trust the Bible? There are many excellent scholarly works on Biblical inerrancy and apologetics, but they are beyond the scope of our discussion. Christians accept that God's Word claims to be true. If we trust it for our Salvation and for heaven and hell, can we not trust it for history and science? Below are a few Bible passages to ponder. The truth of the Bible has been proven with contemporary history of the times, with discoveries of archaeology and of course there are many writings by non-Christian historians about the life of Jesus. There is however non-Biblical historical support for many of the events in the Old Testament as well.

As we begin our study of the God-given wisdom of King Solomon please consider the following teachings of the Bible. All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness: that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. (2 Tim 3:16-17) But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. (2 Pet 1:20-21) Every word of God is tested: He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. (Proverbs 30:5)

Consider Psalms 118:8...the middle verse in the Bible. Our whole relationship to God and His Word truly pivots upon our acceptance of this verse. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

We are warned to beware of false philosophies: See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world. (Colossians 2:8).

There is a very old rule of Bible study that goes something like this.

1. As one studies a passage from the Bible, first try to understand what God is saying in that passage. All of God's Word comes from Him. One of the reasons we study the Word of God is to know the mind of God. Ask, "What does this teaching say to me about the character of God?"

2. As one studies a passage from the Bible, try to understand how it applies to my life. We study the Bible in part to be better humans. Ask, "How can I apply this teaching to my personal life?"

3. Finally, as one reads passages ask, "How can I apply this teaching to other people?" Perhaps more than most other parts of the Bible, Proverbs helps us relate to others.

There are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs. Consider starting each day by reading the chapter corresponding to the day of the month. It will change your life and give you wisdom to avoid bad decisions and will provide valuable information for dealing with yourself, family and the workplace. You will also learn of the character of the God of Creation. Go for it. Superior Alien knowledge is available to you right now! Why are you waiting?
